History

Mitco Tool Company was established in 1964 as the manufacturing arm of Bonuskor Group and the main product line was high-speed steel drill bits. The plant was originally designed to manufacture 6000 drills per day. 

By 1982 the capacity of the Mitco drill plant was in the excess of 80 000 units per day. The company distributed its products to more than 40 countries in the world.

Mitco diversified its product range to manufacture a range of hand tools which included bench vices, hacksaw frames, cold chisels, screwdrivers, die sets and machine tools.

In the mid-1990’s Mitco bought a company called Afile which manufactured a range of engineers files and wood rasps and a range of iron tools under the Aftool brand name, and the company’s name was changed to Afmit (Pty) Ltd. In 2010 the name was changed back to Mitco (Pty) Ltd. 

In 2013 the company acquired Rosslyn Technical Products which distributes a range of measuring tools under the Ross brand name.

The company is situated in the Brits Industrial Area from where it manufactures and distributes its range of products and has offices in Johannesburg and Durban.
